It's a Lexus key which would price 250$ to replace so I tin can't become that route...

My question is... Tin I drill a hole through the center of the key where the Lexus logo is, and so just use a round key chain to concord it? I've almost lost my keys so many times that I really need to solve this (without paying 250$ for a new key). Would drilling a hole effect the cardinal in whatever way or possibly dismantle the unabridged thing?

EDIT: Those pictures didn't turn out too well.

I'm guessing since information technology costs $250 information technology has some sort of electronic bit in information technology and youd probably drill right through it.

well the central is old, its for a 1991 Lexus LS400, and there's no buttons on information technology, its just a fundamental that locks/unlocks the machine. No wireless lock/unlock or alarm or body, simply a simple key with the Lexus part over it. Whether or not that ways there's no chip in it i'thousand not sure, that'south what i was hoping you guys would know or could help me detect :)

$250 for a fricken cardinal? That thing ameliorate have a flake in it. If not that'due south a total rip. Have it to a locksmith store and become a re-create fabricated.

Ditto. You're not understanding what that chip does. Information technology'south an anti theft thing. When it'due south in the ignition, your car "tin tell" it'southward the possessor'southward key.

Get creative with some plastic and epoxy. Y'all can exercise it!

yeah I had no idea that a chip inside a primal could have anti-theft protection when in the ignition. I called them upwardly, expecting a lot lower since the fundamental has no special features other and then being a key (that i know of at least). But Lexus of Concord told me 250$, I'll effort a primal person tomorrow and run into if that works.

Chewing gun... and tin foil... :p

Truthfully you might want to find someone who has experience (or but the tools) to do some metal piece of work. You lot tin find some sort of small strip of metal and weld it onto the central kind of like new....

does that spiral open up the key? Open it upwardly and run across where it would be safe to drill a pigsty.

popper....if that key costs that much y'all do take an anti theft device...dont drill that cardinal anywhere....they whole thing is basically a radio transmitter....yous can either pay the dealer, or ask the service author (the guy who tells you what y'all demand), if whatever of his guys wants to brand a couple bucks...I know for a fact that the key but costs about 20 bucks and the rest is for "programming"....and so all you have to practise is get one of the store guys to plan the key...I usually left a fifty on the counter and that was all it took.

ps...i did car audio/remote commencement install for a long fourth dimension, and part of that was bypassing anti theft devices....it volition work

wow, this is a nigh a picture perfect diagram of what my cardinal looks similar, except for ane minimal only so big difference... the right side of my key is undrillable because its broken off almost to the big function, no drill is gonna exist big enough to fit a pin through there. Oh well, i'll try request the Lexus guys if they desire to make a couple of bucks :)

just fill the whole far side (area that broke) with epoxy. employ some tape or similar every bit a mold for the epoxy.

you might desire to sand the expanse of the key wehre the epoxy will attatch to, for better bonding

once the epoxy s dry, drill a hole through it and stick in a primal ring.

I don't think those antitheft chips existed in 1991. The Lexus keys are weird, though, and I don't think a regular central-cut machine could make one. I seem to call up they take the central surface milled out in the heart, rather than cut on the sides. I would phone call effectually to some locksmiths, because I tin can't believe $250 is a off-white price for this.
